It has been a good week for the Pliskova twins, albeit with Kristyna enjoying success in a somewhat lower-profile event than her sister.

Hours after twin sister Karolina reached her maiden grand slam final in the US Open at Flushing Meadows, Kristyna Pliskova moved into the last four of the WTA Dalian Women's Open on Friday.

Karolina Pliskova beat Serena Williams in New York on Thursday, before her sibling made it past the somewhat less daunting challenge posed by Aleksandra Krunic, the world number 153, in China.

Krunic was beaten 6-3 6-4 as Kristyna Pliskova moved within one win of her first WTA final. The Czech will now face home favourite Han Xinyun, who recovered from losing the first set 6-0 to beat compatriot Wang Yafan.

Top seed Wang Qiang suffered a shock three-set loss to Grace Min. The American moves on to a semi-final against Misa Eguchi, an emphatic 6-2 6-0 victor over Julia Glushko.
