The Washington Wizards' play-off hopes are all but extinguished after a heart-breaking overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.

The two sides were neck and neck all game, with the Wizards holding the lead at the end of the third period, but they could not maintain their advantage as the Timberwolves eventually won 132-129 after the second period of OT.

Karl-Anthony Towns scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves to leave the Wizards even further behind in their play-offs pursuit.

The Wizards are now four games off the Detroit Pistons, who compounded the Wizards misery with a 112-105 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

Elsewhere, the San Antonio Spurs extended their home streak to 37 - matching the Chicago Bulls' 1995-96 record after a 110-104 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 32 points and 12 rebounds and was well supported by Tony Parker (14 points), Kevin Martin (13) and Manu Ginobili (13).

The Golden State Warriors became the second team in NBA history to win 65 games in back-to-back seasons as Klay Thompson posted 40 points to better Stephen Curry's effort of 33 during their 128-120 home win over the Dallas Mavericks.

James Harden lead the Houston Rockets to a surprise 112-109 win over the Toronto Raptors with a triple-double of 31 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists, while Kobe Bryant's 28-point haul was not enough to help the Los Angeles Lakers to a win against the Denver Nuggets, losing 116-105.

The Sacramento Kings beat the Phoenix Suns 116-94 courtesy of a DeMarcus Cousins double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds, while the Atlanta Hawks beat the Milwaukee Bucks 101-90, and the Miami Heat triumphed over the Orlando Magic 108-97.
