Novak Djokovic provided fans with an unusual parting gift after his record-equalling Australian Open triumph on Sunday.

The world number one saw off Andy Murray 6-1 7-5 7-6 (7-3) on Rod Laver Arena, moving level with Roy Emerson's tally of six titles at the event.

Victory marked Djokovic's 11th major crown, equal with Rod Laver and Bjorn Borg, and many are backing the Serb to complete the calendar Grand Slam in 2016.

But first it appears Djokovic must seek out some new footwear after he posted a video of himself hurling two pairs of trainers into a crowd of adoring fans during a post-match television interview at Melbourne Park.

Earlier, Adidas, the manufacturer of Djokovic's trainers, tweeted: "We create the shoes. He creates the history. @DjokerNole takes the #AusOpen."

To which Djokovic subsequently replied: "You better send me some new ones, lucky fans are now admiring their perfection and I'm going back home barefoot :)"

"Great 2 weeks are behind us. Great job @AustralianOpen for making us feel at home. Congrats to @andymurray and his team. Keep up good work!

"What a journey. Really grateful for everything. I'll keep working hard. Love is the key!"
