Kurt Gidley has hailed Warrington Wolves team-mate Ben Currie as the complete package and hopes the Super League leaders can keep hold of the impressive youngster.
Warrington Wolves: Currie hits the spot for Gidley
Ben Currie's performances for Warrington have impressed Kurt Gidley, who said: "He's got a great combination of talent and attitude."
Still only 21, the versatile Currie has firmly established himself as a key figure for Tony Smith's men, impressing both in the back row and at centre.
Gidley, in his first season with the Wolves after a lengthy stint in the NRL with hometown club Newcastle Knights, has certainly been impressed with what he has seen.
And while the experienced former Australia international expects a number of English players to follow the likes of the Burgess brothers, James Graham and Gareth Widdop to the NRL in the coming seasons, he hopes Currie will stay put for the time being.
"I think you're going to see more and more players going from the Super League to the NRL and there are a few reasons behind it," Gidley told Omnisport.
"There's certainly enough talented players who can make that transition. There are players over here who should test themselves and challenge themselves to go to the NRL.
"It is pretty enticing with the money and the way the salary cap is going in the NRL. But you know, I'd hate to see Ben Currie go from Warrington Wolves to the NRL because he's been a great young kid for Warrington and the fans and the clubs want to see their best players come from the juniors and play for as long as they can with their club."
Assessing Currie's value to Warrington, Gidley added: "He's only young to start with. He plays back row, can fill in at centre, can play a bit in the halves, which he has at times. He's tall, he's exceptionally quick for a guy of his size and has great footwork, so he's got all sorts of talent and he's shown that in a lot of our games this year.
"He's got a great combination of talent and attitude. He's a great trainer, a great listener, he reads the game really well, which normally takes time and experience - to read the game and numbers and different positions on the field and when and where you can attack from.
"He's really smart footy-wise, he's talented and he's extremely fit for a guy of his size, so he's got a lot of attributes."
