England's impressive displays at the World Twenty20 in India have been a pleasant surprise for captain Eoin Morgan.

Eoin Morgan has been pleasantly surprised by England's competitiveness at the World Twenty20 as they prepare for Wednesday's semi-final with New Zealand.

After suffering defeat in their opening match against West Indies, Morgan's team have won three in a row to reach the last four, including a memorable run chase of 230 to beat South Africa.

Victories over Afghanistan and defending champions Sri Lanka followed as England reached the last four for only the second time in six World T20 appearances - the only other time coming in 2010 when they lifted the trophy.

England's aggressive batting approach and sharpness in the field has given Morgan plenty of encouragement as they prepare to face the unbeaten Black Caps in Delhi.

"I can't quite believe how far we've come overall in our white-ball cricket," he told a news conference ahead of the contest in Delhi.

"The guys we've selected have done outstandingly well and shown a great attitude in learning.

"It's not always easy to come up against very strong sides who knock you back on a day-to-day basis, but every question that's been asked of us we've come back with either a counter-answer or a more aggressive option.

"The results so far have shown the amount of character we have in the group and it shows the group as a whole can be very powerful if we string a game together."
