Ghana midfielder calls for Ghanaians to rally behind Black Stars

The former Celtic midfielder was among the first batch of players who arrived in Ghana for their final AFCON qualifier against Rwanda.

Mubarak Wakaso has called on all stakeholders to support the Black Stars when they take on Rwanda on Saturday.

The Black Stars are already guaranteed top spot in Group H after collecting 13 points from five unbeaten matches, and their place at Gabon 2017 is secure.

However, they come into this final match courting chaos after a battle between the country’s Sports Minister and the Football Association.

The 26-year-old will lead the team in the absence of crocked Asamoah Gyan when the Black Stars take on Mauritius on Sunday with the aim to secure qualification to the AFCON 2017 in Gabon.

And Wakaso, who was among the first batch of players trained with the team on Tuesday, is hoping that the team will continue to enjoy the unrelenting support of Ghanaians.

“You can see that we are all very focused and determined to do the job,” Wakaso told the press after the team’s first training session

“All we want is for the nation to support us so we deliver for them against Rwanda.”

“We want to maintain our momentum and continue our preparations for the World Cup Qualifier.”

The Black Stars claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Rwanda when the teams met in their group match in Kigali a year ago, with Mubarak Wakaso scoring a late goal to see the West Africans to victory.
