"The President considered the fact that a small town like New Edubiase to able to have football club to play in the league (Premier League) consistently and rub shoulders with big clubs like Hearts of Oak and the rest. When the President looks at the football field they play on the President thought no. And so he thought that when he assists them it will help,” the Sports Minister asked.

"Before the President even thought about it, the chief was going to make that presentation to the President. So when we went there the chief said we don't want anything in this town. We have the schools, we have the hospitals, we have the roads. What we need is that we have built a football team which today is beating Hearts of Oak and beating Kotoko. We want a stadium," he continued.

The minister further clarified issues regarding the new edifice considering the project cost as against the capacity, bearing in mind the new Cape Coast cost the Chinese government $30 million to complete the 15,000 structure as a grant to Ghana.

"It is not to the level of Cape Coast, definitely it will not be to the level of Cape Coast. But it is also going to be better than for example Cape Coast Siwdo (Robert Mensah stadium). We will have good stands, we will have dressing room facilities, we will have offices.

"What we are going to do is after this one the Ministry of Youth and Sports is going to add to it, an ultra-modern indoor facility so that all the schools around that enclave - Adansi, Asokwa, Fomena, up to Obuasi can use the facility for their schools and colleges sports".
