Kwadwo Asamoah opts out of AFCON 2017

The Black Stars midfielder will not take part in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations for fear picking up an injury, according reports in the local media.

It is reported on several media platforms in Kumasi, where the Juventus midfielder hails from that the he has told Avram Grant he should not hand him a call-up to feature for Ghana in the continental showpiece.

Kwadwo Asamoah hasn’t played for Ghana under coach Avram Grant since he took over the team late 2014 due to recurring injuries.

Asamoah was expected to return to the Black Stars for the AFCON, but he suffered another injury setback and has just returned to feature for Juventus.

Avram Grant is yet to name his squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon from 14th January to 5th February.

Ghana have been drawn in the same group with Egypt, Uganda and Congo.
