Gyan: I want to be like Floyd Mayweather

Gyan has set his sights higher, saying he would like to reach the level of boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has said that his role model in the world of sports is retired American boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather had earned some $420 million before 2015 even started, according to Forbes. By the time his total haul was tallied this year, he took in another $300 million to easily top the previous record for earnings by an athlete of $115 million, held by Tiger Woods.

And Gyan, who is now considered as one of the richest players in Africa due to the reported hefty salary he takes at Chinese club Shanghai SIPG, has set his sights higher, saying he would like to reach the level of boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather.

When asked who his favourite sports personality is, the Ghana captain said: "It is straight away [Floyd] Mayweather," Gyan told Viasat1.

"He is my role model. He is not a failure, very rich, he always wants to win and that has made him successful. That is how i am. I never like defeat and always want to successful in life.

Mayweather, an American professional boxer was undefeated, as a professional and a five-division world champion.

He won 12 world titles and the lineal championship in four different weight classes. Mayweather's record stands at 41-and-0 with 25 knockouts.
