Ghana Premier League in numbers

Here is our Ghana Premier League season in numbers so far.

10: The most points by one team in the top flight after four games in the season which has been won by Accra Hearts of Oak. The Phobians were supposed to struggle this term but have looked really good under Kenichi Yatsuhashi, triggering the re-emergence of Phobians especially on social media

9: The number of draws in the Ghana Premier League this season. In a league where away wins are rare, sometimes the best bet for any club is making sure you don’t lose away from home and many clubs have done that very well. Defending champions AshantiGold have drawn the most games with three draws in four games

8: The points tally of the unbeaten pair Dreams FC and Wa All Stars who have started the season in strong form. The two clubs drew 1-1 in Dawu last weekend and have looked solid all season. The pair are in joint second and on the evidence of the way the season has started should figure in the top flight for long spells this season.

7: WAFA has scored seven goals, most by one club in the league after four round of matchhes even though they have won two games and lost two. WAFA have also provided the top scorer in the league with Samuel Tetteh the early goalking after four games witth four goals.

6: Four clubs are tied on six points and and three them have secured that at home; a reflection of the mantra in football that do all you can to win at home. Techiman City, WAFA and Bechem United have known no middle ground; they win at home and lose away. AshantiGold have prefered the middle ground, often simply drawing games with three in four games so fair.

5: The most goals scored in a single game by a single club since the inception of the league which was registered in Sogakope by WAFA in their 5-0 annahilation of Sekondi Hasaacas. The Sekondi club have themselves been involved in the highest scoring game of the season so far when they beat Techiman 4-2 in a thriller.

4: Kumasi Asante Kotoko have gone four games without a win, their worst start in fifteen years. The Porcupine Warriors have drawn two and lost two of their opening four games of the season, piling up the pressure on coach David Duncan. Duncan claims it was worst last season but the club were actually three points beter off last term than they are now.

3: The number of away wins this season which underlines just how difficult it is to win on the road in the Ghana Premier League. Wa All Stars, Dreams FC and Hearts of Oak are the sides to have won away with the 2-0 victory by the Phobians over Medeama the biggest on the road by any club.

2: Represents the least points by any club after four matches. That dubious honour belongs to Kumasi Asante Kotoko just cant by a win. The Porcupine Warriors have also conceded two goals each in three of their four matches and when they have scored in a game as they did against Medeama they have scored twice. Looks like two is a favourite in Kumasi this season.

1: is the least point by any team which is jointly held by Ebusua Dwarfs and Medeama. Both clubs can argue that they have an outstanding game each but the fact that their points tally still stands at one point from three games speaks of a miserable start to the season.
