Black Stars cruise to 1982 AFCON final

Exactly 34 years today, Ghana edged the North African giants to reach the 1982 AFCON final

On 16th March, 1982, the Black Stars fought from behind to beat Algeria 3-2 in the semifinals of the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) staged in Libya

George Alhassan shot Ghana into the lead in the 4th minute, before Zidane canceled the lead in the 29 minute.

Assad put Algeria in the lead in the 62th minute, but Opoku Nti brought Ghana back into the game with an injury time goal to throw the game into extra time.

The good old George Alhassan defied all odds to hit the match winner in the first half of the extra time to send the Black Stars to the final of the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Libya.

Ghana would win the championship by beating  the hosts, Libya in the first ever final decided on penalty shootout.
