Jones Attuquayefio passes on

Exactly a year today the legendary coach passed away after several year of battling with throat cancer

Coach Jones Attuquafio will forever be remembered by the football family for imparting in the game as a player, coach and administrator.

He captained Accra Gt. Olympics to win their first league title in 1970 and was also part of the Black Stars team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1965 in Tunisia.

In the coaching realm, Attuquayefio won Accra Hearts all their three continental trophies: The CAF Champions League in 2000, the CAF Super Cup in 2001 and the CAF Confederations Cup in 2004, but the final was played in 2005.

He also coached the Black Stars and is revered by Benin for qualifying them to their maiden Africa Cup of Nations in 2004.

In the area of football administration, the former gaffer was the GFA General Secretary in the 1990’s.

His remarkable feat of winning a treble of league, FA Cup and CAF Champions League won him the Africa Coach of the Year in 2000.
