Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has called on the current football generation of Ghana to emulate the patriotism of Charles Kumi Gyamfi, the former Black Stars skipper and coach when he paid his last respect to him.

The former Youth and Sports minister has encouraged footballers of today to learn from the life of the late C.K Gyamfi.

Several sports enthusiasts and administrators, including Elvis Afriyie Ankrah were at the Banquet Hall, State House to pour their glowing tribute on the first coach to win the Africa Cup of Nations on three occasions.
He used that as an opportunity to advise the current generation of footballers to learn a lot of lessons from the career of C.K Gyamfi.
“When we were growing the name of C.K Gyamfi, for want of a better word was gargantuan. He was a legend, we heard stories about him. He was also like a mythical person, the goals he scored his performance, he told Hot FM.

“Little did I know that I would one day meet him and shake hands with and I would one day be at his funeral and even play role. I am very happy that state has honoured him with a state assisted burial.
“His life should be an example to the younger football generation, because in spite of all his achievements and success on the field, he was down to earth.
“They should remember that whatever talent they have is a gift from God so they should be humble and use it to serve mother Ghana.”
The late CK Gyamfi will be buried at his hometown of Okorase on Saturday December 19.
C.K Gyamfi was the first African player to play in Germany when he joined Fortuna Dusseldorf in 1960.

Alvis Afriyie Ankrah was the Sports Minister, when the Black Stars boycotted training during the 2014 FIFA World Cup over the payment of appearance fees.
