Frank Acheampong and his compatriots Dennis Appiah played the full 90 minutes and the former could have registered the opener, yet he missed from the one on one with Romero in the Manchester United goal by some few inches to the relief of the home fans.

Henrik Mkhitaryan broke the deadlock of the game in the 10th minute when he placed nicely a ball supplied by Marcus Rashford, but Sofiane Hanni drew level for Anderlecht in the 32nd minute.

Manchester United laboured in search for the opener which never came in the rest of the 90 minutes despite creating several opportunities.

The game travelled into extra, yet the first half produced no winner, before Marcus Rashford in a world class fashion scored the match winner in the last 15 minutes to give Manchester United the ticket to the last four of the competition.
