If you don’t give me pistol I can’t protect your church again! – Owusu Bempah’s security guard
Some youth believed to be Muslims invaded Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah’s church premises on Wednesday, January 2, wielding machetes and other weapons, destroyed glass windows, louvres and billboard bearing the image of the controversial prophet.
The attack follows some controversial prophecies the man of God had pronounced on New Year’s Eve, claiming some prominent people including former president Kuffour, Chief Imam Sheikh Usmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia among other notable names would die in the year 2019.
They had asked Owusu Bempah to retract the prophecies and apologise launched an attack on the church.
The security man on duty at the time of the attack is seen in a viral video running speedily for his life with only loin cloth on.
What has become such a topical issue is the speed of the escape, with some people hilariously suggesting that he be recruited to represent Ghana in the next Olympic Games.
After the incident, the security man who has now earned an accolade as ‘Owusu Bempah’s Usain Bolt’ said continuing his job at the church premises without a gun is a mission impossible.
“If I will continue to do this work I need a weapon. Silent pistol and one for warning shots. If the thing happens I can give warning shots. If the person wants to come for me I can shoot the person’s leg or hand,” he told Citi TV’s Umar Sanda.
Narrating his ordeal at the hands of the lawless youth, the man said: “I woke up reading a bible…after that I put my cloth round my waist to go and bath. My sister told me John Boye had come to see me when I came out I saw that the machete-wielding youth had besieged the place. I was scared, so I closed both the small and main gate. I realized someone scaled the wall and came and open the gate. They all came in and started beating me. One of them picked a chair to hit me and I got the chance and runaway.”
Meanwhile, one of the attackers whose images were captured in a video reportedly turned in himself to the police as investigation is underway.
