Kenyans exercised their democratic right on Aug 8 by taking part in what experts had labelled the tightest election in the history of the country.

Since then, it has been days of anxious waiting for the release of the Presidential results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

And as the country waits to know who their next President will be, Business Insider SSA looks at pictorial time line of events.

The Opposition has been giving periodic pressers expressing concerns over hacking of the IEBC electronic system to manipulate Presidential Results in favour of incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta

Raila Odinga's comments disputing the Presidential results that gave President Kenyatta an early lead sparked protests in parts of Kisumu and Nairobi.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been keeping Kenyans up to speed with all the happenings regarding the elections.....

....as Kenyans follow the proceedings on all forms of media, including print and electronic.

Several international observers, including the African Union, European Union and Commonwealth have since lauded the IEBC for conducting a credible poll.

Japheth Kaluyu was the first Presidential Candidate to concede defeat seeing that he stood no chance of winning the State House race given the clear lead by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Meanwhile, a 41 year old man by the name of Martin Kamotho has been the talk of town after he was pictured enjoying a meal of Githeri (boiled maize and beans) while queuing at the polling station.

The photo elicited a lot of reactions and Kenyans being the creative bunch went on to make some hilarious memes of the man who has since become famous.

That said, the anxious wait has kept Kenyans indoors and major towns deserted in the country including the Nairobi Central Business District.

All eyes now remain on the Bomas of Kenya, which has been IEBC's tallying centre, as Kenyans seek to quell the anxiety that has virtually put the country on hold since August 8th.
