A statement from City said: “Sergio Agüero will be assessed by club doctors today [Friday] after being involved in a road accident on Thursday. The City forward was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries. He will return to Manchester this morning and his status will be checked ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash at Chelsea.”
Manchester City will face Chelsea, as Pep Guardiola eyes his victory over the champions since taking over as boss of the the Citizens and the absence of the Argentine who has been in a devastating form would be felt in the game.
Agüero has scored seven goals in eight matches, and the prospect of him being sidelined for six weeks would be a crushing blow to Guardiola, especially as Mendy and Kompany are already sidelined.
A six week lay-off would rule Agüero out of City’s next eight matches up, including the league games against Chelsea and Arsenal and Champions League matches at home and away to Napoli. It would also rule him out of Argentina’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Ecuador next month.
