These are the top 11 innovations we saw at the 2017 IPA Innovation Marketplace
Africa assembled top innovators from around the continent. Here are some of the best innovations we saw around.
Business Insider presents some of the great innovations at the 2017 Innovation Prize for Africa.
Heart Beat Sensor
The Heart Beat Sensor is an android phone app and has a web version too. Aiming to improve technology in health on the African continent, Heart Beat Sensor works with the rate of an individual’s pulse (heart beat) as a sensing device takes readings on the wearer and sends an alert.
The Tryctor
Modeled in the form of a conventional tractor, the smaller scale tractor is basically modeled on a motorcycle. With 60% of the Tryctor’s parts locally sourced, the African invention works by attaching various farming implements. It is easy to use and cheaper that the regular tractor.
Klaks Technologies Limited
Electronic waste is a problem for Africa as the financial burden involved in managing e-waste is one that many countries on the continent can’t take on.
For Klaks Technologies Limited, this is where repurposing comes in.
Their solution to the e-waste problem is converting them to 3D printers.
Aside from promoting the study of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), Klaks Technologies’ approach makes learning fun for students.

Devlessbaas
Coding is the now future. (Does this even make sense? You get it. Let’s move on).
DevLess which is the short form of Develop Less is an open source platform that helps developers easily build web and mobile applications.
The process is cheaper and fast means for developers.
Repeatedly writing long lines of code is a thing of the past with DevLess as plug and play modules are provided to be integrated into a developer’s application.
Pasgid Robotics
Simply finding the easiest ways to make beginners understand robotics is their thing.
Pasgid Robotics provides starter kits to aid in robotics. Also, they aim to make robots cheaper and readily available.
Dext Technology
Creatively coined from the popular Dexter’s Laboratory show, these inventors want to make a mini lab available for all students.
Their science set is a revolutionary toolbox that solves the lack of practical science education in Africa.
As a miniature science lab, practically learning science and maths in Africa and beyond just got easier and cheaper.
Fire Alert Network System
This system alerts owners of a possible fire outbreak venue, neighbours, the Fire Service through SMS and web app notifications aiding directions with an incorporated GPS and navigation.
Teledokta
Working with an app on mobile and purely internet based, Teledokta acts as a go to doctor online. You can book appointments to talk to a doctor.
The innovation also makes room for laboratory technicians to come to you and run lab tests. Subscribers can also book appointments for lab tests done elsewhere be explained to them online.
Createch
In the world of robotics, Createch is creating robots for different roles using Legos.
Video Capturing Robots
Another robot … capturing videos.
Robotic Lawn Mower
This mower reduces both environmental and noise pollution while freeing the individual from mowing their own lawn. Environmental friendly, less work.
