Kwesi Ernest, manager of gospel musician, SP Kofi Sarpong, has described as ‘immature’ comments from Naa Mercy which suggested that his artiste singing Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Susuka’ is unholy.

Naa Mercy, a gospel musician, is said to have stated at Francis Amo’s Garment of Worship over the weekend that God is a jealous God. In view of that, children of God should not joke with the Holy Spirit. To her, singing such a song is unholy.

But reacting to the comments on Pluzz FM’s AM Pluzz, Kwesi Ernest said there was nothing wrong with his artiste performing an inspirational song. According to him, although the song was not sung by a gospel musician, it does not make it unholy.

Kwesi Ernest advised budding artistes to be mindful of making such comments as they are not expected to judge.

“I beg of the upcoming acts to take it easy. In the aspect of their spirituality, there is no need for such comments. If someone performs and you think it’s not holy, present what is holy when it gets to your turn. Let all musicians see themselves as individual brands so that if any opportunity presents itself one day, we can represent this country instead of judging who is holy and righteous,” he said.

‘Susuka’ is a song which talks about how man should be content with what he has as his situation is better than others. The song won Kofi Kinaata Songwriter of the Year at the 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Kwesi Ernest believes the song has the potency of having a positive impact on people and can be sung anywhere.

“Do you know how many people were inspired by that song? That song is unique. For you to say that a platform was for worshipping God and not to sing that song is a little much of immaturity. I beg them, they should cease fire. A day will come you will need this same artiste to do something for you,” he noted

SP Kofi Sarpong has for some time now declared that he loves Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Susuka’ and has on a number of occasions performed the song at some events.
