Actor, John Dumelo, has dispelled assertions that his appointment as Ghanaâs Tourism Ambassador is a gratification for declaring his support for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A section of the public has attributed his appointment to the fact that he endorsed the party and was spotted at some rallies.
But speaking on Joy FMâs Rhythmz A-Z, John Dumelo reiterated that he is not being paid, neither is it âjob for the boysâ as some put it.
âIt has nothing to do with that because if I was appointed and being paid or given certain privileges, then you can say this is job for the boys. But Iâm actually using my own resource to play the role as an ambassador. Itâs not because I said I like this person or that person so thatâs my reward. No, my reward is serving my country,â he noted.
Teen actor, Abraham Attah and radio presenter, Gilbert Abeiku Aggery, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, have all been appointed as Tourism Ambassadors for Ghana.
Abeiku Santana has indicated that he will engage taxi drivers to promote tourism in the country. According to him, there are more benefits from the sector and there is the need to bring on board institutions and individuals to help promote it in Ghana.
âTourism is a major economic activity. If you travel to countries like, South Africa, Kenya and Zambia among others, they are making so much money from tourism. I can say countries that are promoting tourism are developing on all angles, not only from natural resources such as gold, diamond and oil, etc⊠but from tourism⊠We are first engaging those I term as original ambassadors of tourism, thatâs taxi drivers. I call them by that name because if you travel to any country or city or town, the people who can tell you whatâs happening in that particular area are taxi drivers. That means, when we are able to transform taxi drivers to entrepreneurs who can adopt measures to make money for themselves. So we are on course,â he has said.
