Former President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA),

“He [Obour] must listen to people who have been there because they wouldn’t like him to make those mistakes that they did. He is trying to do his best but there is room for more… I have called him and told him several times to try and buy equipment for the musicians in the regions so that they can work and generate money for themselves with the money he is spending on the Music Week,” he noted.

Obour was retained as president of the union after he polled 88 votes to beat his contenders, Gyedu Blay Ambulley and Appiah Dankwa (Appietus) who polled 22 and 18 votes respectively.

The election was held at the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua on October 31, 2015.

Obour campaigned that he deserved a second term because his administration had been able to chalk a number of successes including the Institutionalization of Ageing Musicians Welfare, Setting up a MUSIGA Academy, signing a contract with Charterhouse which makes the union have a major stake when it comes to the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards as well as accountability brought to the union by himself and his executives.

Hiplife artiste, Okyeame Kwamein 2015 scored Obour 65%.

“In general I will mark Obour’s administration 65%. They did quite well to bring on board new schemes which he was able to accomplish though there are others yet to achieve,” he said on Kasapa FM.

Some musicians including Kontihene, Criss Waddle, Shatta Wale and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley have however stated that Obour has failed musicians as he has not been able to do anything significant for members.

“Obour is a big dude. I’m very disappointed in him because he’s been at the other side of the business before and according to him and his people, they think they are trying but I don’t know who they think they are deceiving. I think they are deceiving their own ideologies. They have answers to every question… The reflection of Obour’s performance reflects on the shape of his belly,” Kontihene said in an interview with Pulse TV.
