Filmmaker,
Nii Odoi Mensah reportedly died in China where he was undergoing a Kidney transplant. Doctors had declared his two kidneys as incapable of functioning to keep him alive.
Speaking on Hitz FMâs Daybreak Hitz on Tuesday, Socrate Safo who was a close friend of Nii Odoi said the actor was the only person who could calm him down whenever he got angry at meetings.
âHe was one person who by just looking at me, calms me down when Iâm angry at our meetings. The only instance I defied his words was when we were going for the âEsum Aduru Yenâ demonstration in Kumasi. He listened to me, I listened to him. We shared a whole lot of secrets, most of which I will never disclose anywhereâŠ,â he said.
Mr Safo disclosed he had constantly been interacting with Nii Odoi Mensah in China before his demise. According to him, the former board member of Audio Visuals Society of Ghana (ARSOG), needed money to undergo treatment.
âI spoke to Nii almost every day except yesterday because I had lots of meetings⊠Before he went to China, he told me he had heard of a hospital there which could treat him and they needed about $10,000. We all did our part by contributing but when he got there, he realised he would need more than the said amount because he needed more treatment. I remember he called to request for about $26,000. We solicited for support and all that,â he said
Adding, âThree days ago, we had a conversation and I told him I will update him on certain things I had to do for him. I couldnât call. I woke up today, checked ARSOG board platform and Abeiku Sagoe had posted there that he had passed on. I called Nii, he didnât answer so I sent him a message hoping he responds. And I pray he respondsâ.
Nii Odoi Mensahâs death comes after the demise of Rev Eddie Coffie, president of the guild and Welfare Officer, Solomon Sampah.
