Renowned Ghanaian artiste, Akosua Agyepong has urged fellow musicians to inculcate the habit of writing songs that will influence the lives of people positively.

Speaking to Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch about her expectations in the creative arts industry, the Frema hit-maker remarked that the current crop of musicians are doing exceptionally well with the kind of rhythms they come out with but advised they be mindful of the lyrics of their songs.

According to her, songs with good messages last while those without are short lived.

“I plead with the current and upcoming artistes… the rhythms that they are coming out with are very beautiful but they should write meaningful songs. Their lyrics should be insightful, inspiring and touching. Some of the songs have unhealthy lyrics that can put listeners off. How can you waste such a rhythm?” she wondered.

Adding, “Ask yourself how long the song will last. Those songs are short lived. Your song should live forever. If you compose a good song, the song will grow with you and even when you die, people would still enjoy your song. Bob Marley died long ago but his songs live because of the sensible messages in his song.”

Akosua Agyepong also stressed on the need for Ghanaian artistes to hold on to the highlife rhythm.

“They should concentrate on our highlife rhythm. Even if we want to modernise, we should fuse our ‘Yaa Amponsa’ rhythm with some elements of the western world. The whites are fed up with their genre so they come here for variety. They even value our elements and that is why they program their software with some of our elements and later sell it to us”, she noted.
