Record producer, Appietus says he can rescind his decision to contest for the upcoming Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) elections if the incumbent president, Bice Osei Kufour (Obour) can convince him of fulfilling his campaign promises that he has been slow in delivering.

Appietus, member of Obour’s communications team told Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch that he is interested in the presidency because Obour had been “reluctant” in fulfilling some of his campaign promises.

According to him, Obour would have to sign a contract with him that things will be different in order for him to rescind his decision and back the incumbent for a second term. He debunked assertions that his decision to contest was a plan to let Obour go unopposed as he will step down at the eleventh hour for the incumbent.

“This is not about politics where one would want to contest even when the incumbent is doing well. I am going full-fledged. Since I declared my intentions, they have introduced new clauses and increased the filing fee with the intention of scaring prospective contestants. If I will step down for Obour, then he would have to sign a contract with me that his second term would be different from his first…

“At first he was a listening president. It got to a point he turned death ears to all our suggestions with the excuse that he has done better than his predecessor. But this is not about you being better than your predecessor. It’s about putting things in place to better the welfare of the members. He has become reluctant and too slow for my liking. So I decided to pick up nominations forms and contest him because he may think there is no one to contest him. There are several unfulfilled promises,” Appietus said.

Asked what some of those promises are, the sound engineer said, “We were supposed to establish a recording studio, solicit for radio and television station license etc., and this is making some members conclude that we are not serving their interest. If he were pursuing the agenda and ended up failing, we would know he had made an effort; but he is doing nothing.”

Appietus however refused to accept that he was part of a “failed” administration despite his position as a communications team member.

“What can I do as a communications team member? If I suggest and he is unwilling to execute, do you blame me for any failure?” he quizzed.
