Zayn Malik announced he is officially leaving his boy band, One Direction, on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Zayn Malik is taking a solo direction after announcing he is officially leaving his boy band, One Direction, today, March 25, 2015.

The band announced the singer's exit through a Facebook post on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

However Zayn says even though the last 5 years have been a dream, he needs to go with his gut and chill to be just a regular guy for a while.

As for the rest of the members of the band, they say its a huge loss but they respect his decision and plans to continue with just four members: Niall, Harry, Liam and Louis.

Interestingly, the popular producer, Simon Cowell also sang Zayn's praises but he's definitely holding his chin up and assuring die-hard fans that they have nothing to fear because the band will go on.

As for Zayn's reason to split, there are insinuations that his lifestyle threatened his relationship with his fiance - last Thursday, March 19, 2015, Zayn bowed out of the band's world tour due to 'stress.'

The band has promised to continue to tour as a lead up to their fifth album
