Assault Businessman granted GH¢30,000 bail after hitting victim's eye with hammer

He was charged with conspiracy to commit crime and causing harm, to which he pleaded guilty with explanation.

A 33-year-old businessman, Fuseini Zakaria has been granted bail by a Tarkwa Circuit Court in the sum of GH¢30,000 after he was arrested by the Police for hitting his colleague’s right eye with a metal hammer.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit crime and causing harm, to which he pleaded guilty with explanation. The case was then adjourned to October 3, 2017.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Clement Amoah, in prosecuting narrated to the court, presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew that the complainant, John Nyarko a 27year -old is mason who resides at Kawerekwano, a suburb of Tarkwa.

According to him, on August 19, at about 10:30 pm, the accused and five other accomplices who are now on the run, forced the complainant into Zakaria's Hyundai Elantra saloon car and drove to the Golden Age School Complex area at Kawerekwano.

The prosecution said when they arrived, the accused picked a metal hammer from the boot of his car and hit Nyarko's right eye.

Chief Inspector Clement Amoah said after the incident, Zakaria drove his car away and later called one Kwofie on phone and asked him to take the complainant to the hospital and later paid the medical bill.

He said on August 23 this year, the complainant made an official report to the police and he was referred to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital to seek further medical attention.

The accused was subsequently arrested and he admitted the wrongdoing.

Prosecution further revealed that, it gathered in its investigations that three weeks before the incident, a controversy ensued between the two, and in the process the complainant hit Zakaria's head with a stone, but he failed to report it to the police. The accused may have committed the offense in retaliation.
