Police officer caught on camera selling service’s weapons to criminals

A police task force managed to buy several police guns and other acoutrements from the police officer and his accomplice after the team members posed as criminals.

The 46-year-old policeman was nabbed together with his his 50-year-old accomplice while performing their undercover operations.

According to buzzsouthafrica.com, Hawks KwaZulu-Natal spokesman Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo who disclosed the information to the media, said the  Anti-Corruption task force “worked” with the suspected police officer and his accomplice, posing as criminals and managed to purchase lots of ammunition‚ bulletproof vests‚ paper sprays‚ firearm magazines and police uniform.

This arrest follows a disturbing report about missing SAPS firearms recorded in the police service between 2009 and 2014.

According to a recent data released by the Police Minister Fikile Mbalula, about 7‚829 SAPS firearms have gone missing between 2009 and 2014 due to negligence on the part of the police.

The report further indicated that some of these weapons are used by criminals in perpetrating violent and serious crimes.
