"Tithing is not compulsory, no-one should feel compelled to pay" - Pastor

Senior Pastor of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has not only said tithe payment is not compulsory, but also went ahead to curse his fellow pastors, saying God will punish them for surviving on the scarce resources of their congregants while they themselves go hungry.

That is exactly what many pastors stand on to demand that their congregants pay a ten percent of all their earnings to the church, normally every month and it has been so since time immemorial.

However, the practice has been questioned by some people, but it remains an inconclusive debate.

It is however surprising that no other than a man of God is the one questioning payment of tithe now and urging people to avoid it.

"Churches where pastors are becoming fat and the members are growing lean, God will judge them," Pastor Tunde Bakare cursed.

The man of God who doubles as a politician and was Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari's running mate in the 2011 elections added that, "Tithing is not compulsory. No-one should feel compelled to pay - no-one is holding a gun to their head."

It is expected that other pastors and Christians will descend heavily on Tunde Bakare for wading into the controversial topic.
