Kayla Mendoza 22, who killed two 21-year-olds in a fatal car crash in 2013 has been sentenced to 24 years in jail. She was sentenced after a court appearance earlier this week.

According to reports, the judge also permanently invalidated Mendoza’s license and mandated she donate $2 to charity each year on the anniversary of the accident — one dollar for each of her victims, Kaitlyn Ferrante and Marisa Catronio.

She’ll also have a probationary period of six years when her sentence is over. The Florida woman pled guilty to two counts of DUI manslaughter.

On the night of the crash, she drove her car after drinking underage at a local restaurant. Mendoza’s blood alcohol level was reportedly .15, twice the legal limit, as she sped down the highway driving over 80 miles per hour.

She tweeted, "2 drunk 2 care" before driving the wrong way on an interstate and killing the two adolescents.

During the sentencing, Mendoza allegedly delivered an apology to the families of the victims. They were all present, wearing t-shirts printed with the girls’ faces.

NBC 6 reports Mendoza delivered the following statement; “No matter how much time passes they will never leave my heart. I think about them everyday and I regret my choices [every day.]

I don’t remember deciding to drive that night so I can’t even tell you what was going through my mind when I made that decision. I have no excuses for anything I’ve done, I just ask for forgiveness. “

According to WSVN, the victims’ families acknowledged the apology but struggle to find closure.
