REVIEW

Their usual trend was not repeated with the iPhone 7…they jumped straight to an 8. This may probably seem like a cool deal, but is it worth the upgrade from iPhone7 to iPhone 8?

First of all they both the front and rear cameras are the same at 12MP, f/1.8, OIS and7MP, f/2.2 respectively  but there has been a small changes across the board which results in faster autofocus, better pixel and hardware noise  reduction for better photographic and video improvements. They are both waterproof and use finger print scanning. The facial and iris scanner is reserved for iPhone X. the iPhone 8 is similar to the iPhone 7 when it comes to display the top and bottom bezels remain the same but iPhone 8 has a new display feature  called the true tone which alters the temperature of your display depending on your environment. This makes for great pictures and better viewing in the dark.

Their external design makes them look pretty much the same from a first glance, but actually the iPhone 8 is a weeny-tiny bit bigger than the iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 comes off at 138.4mmX67.3X7.3 mm and heavier at 148g. At 138g and dimensions of 138.3X67.1X7.1mm, the iPhone 7 is arguably smaller. The heaviness of the iPhone 8 is attributed to the glass back casing (like iPhone 4) unlike the aluminum in iPhone 7. This allows for the newest Apple wireless charging feature. This also means that the back can easily crack too…ouch!

And if you are looking for more color options, the iPhone 7 has a wider range which features rose gold, gold, silver, grey and jet black. The iPhone 8 comes in only gold, space grey and sliver (…kind of boring right?)

There also isn’t a lot of difference when it comes to battery power. The battery off the iPhone 8 lasts only a fraction longer than the iPhone 7 but the good news is that when it runs out of juice, it will charge more quickly. This is because Apple has added wired quick charging, followed by Qi-compatible wireless charging, but operates at only 7.5W which is much less than the 15W peak Qi charging supports and rivals like the Galaxy S8 use.

The iPhone 8 has uses A11 Bionic chipset, 64bit, with M11 motion coprocessor also features a new custom-designed GPU on dual-core processes. Also provides a major boost with a 20% improvement. Claimed to be 70 percent faster than the A10 Fusion chip, 64bit with M10 motion coprocessor which is found inside the iPhone 7. This makes the iPhone 8 faster meaning downloads are faster and easier especially for your apps.

The iPhone 8 kicks off at £699/4,194 cedis for 64GB and £799/4,794 cedis for 128GB. While the iPhone 8 Plus starts at £799/4,794 cedis for 64GB and £899/5,394 cedis for 128GB.  The iPhone 7 starts off at £599/3,594 for 32GB of storage and £699/ 4,194 cedis for 128GB. If you wanted the bigger iPhone 7 plus then you’d be splurging £699/ 4,194 cedis for the 32GB and £799/4,794 cedis for the bigger 128GB model.

RATING

So to the big question, what is the difference between the iPhone 7 and iphone 8? The major difference is the A11 Bionic chipset which makes the iPhone 8 one of the fastest phones ever. But the iPhone 7 is still an amazing phone and if you can’t afford the more expensive iPhone 8, you might consider sticking to the iPhone 7 and upgrading your operating system rather. Unless of course if you have the extra 1,000 cedis to upgrade to an iPhone 8.

I would give the iPhone 8 ;4/10 considering it's difference compared to the iPhone 7.
