The Avocado season is in. Here is how you can make use of the fruit beyond eating it.
Avocado season is on! Yaay!!! " That was my reaction when i saw some women sell avocado in town this morning. I am pretty sure when you saw avocado on the market, the plant in your house bearing fruits you began thinking about all the meals you can enjoy with avocado; mashed plantain or (Oto), rice and stew with slices of avocado, my tasty apem with kontomire and avocado and the list goes on and on.
But did you know that you could do more with avocado. I remember my mum's favorite saying when any fruit is in season. " When a fruit is in season don't just eat it get all the other benefits from it, after all it will be out of season soon,"she would say.
Here are four (4) ways the fruit can be useful beyond adding it to your meals
Moisturise your face
There are so many products out there when it comes to moisturising your face to give it the perfect sheen and colour. These products can be expensive-I know, that is why avocado will come in handy when added to other ingredients in your kitchen. Just smash some avocado which is rich in vitamin E, add egg which is also rich in collagen and protein. You could add honey which is an anti bacteria agent. Combine some or all of these and apply to your face.
Do you have damaged hair? Then avocado is the right solution as it is high in fat and vitamin B an E which are good for damaged hair. The hair soaks the nutrients into the cuticles making the hair moist and prevent breakage. Blend avocado together with olive oil. Add lemon juice and leave in hair for 15 minutes. Shampoo, condition and style as desired.
The Avocado seed is through away most of the time. But hey did you know it can be used as a dye? This is what to do to extract the dye. Start by boiling as many seeds as possible in stainless-steel pot. Let is simmer for about one hour. Soak your cotton fabrics in the water which is pink in nature now. Find all the directions on Cuesa.org.
All you have to do is to mix your avocado with olive oil, lemon juice and salt. There you have it healthy mayonnaise which is very low in fat compared ton the one on the counter at the super market.
