Stonebwoy brings 'Books and Boots' to Ashaiman

Stonebwoy treated hundreds of kids to reading and singing sessions as the Books and Boots train hit Ashaiman.

Award winning Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy treated hundreds of kids to reading and singing sessions as the Books and Boots train hit Ashaiman.The Ashaiman born and bred dancehall act spent several hours interacting with children drawn from various communities affected by the devastating floods of June 3rd, 2015.The culture of reading amongst Ghanaian children especially after school hours has become a major source of concern for education stakeholders. The concept of Books and Boots is to entice children to read in small groups and on their own using football as the main attraction.Ashaiman was proposed by Stonebwoy after he visited a Books and Boots event in Nima. A few days before the event, the musician lost his mother following a short illness but he insisted that his day with the children must go ahead.Stonebwoy was supported by one of Ghana's rising comedians Kalybos and Miss Tourism Ghana 2014/2015, Naa Teidey Ofori.The children were treated to passages from books such as ‘Ant Cities’, ‘What Makes Day and Night’ and ‘Kwaku Ananse and the Pot of Wisdom’.The Rotary Club of Accra, Airport branch donated 100 assorted reading books and 50 t-shirts while All Sports Ghana also contributed footballs to the event. Other contributions were 5 cartons of yoghurt donated by the Holbrook-Smith family of Ashaiman and 4 cartoons of Tampico from Ebony and Ivory Productions. The event was also supported by One Ghana and the Ghana Volunteers Brigade.tonebwoy delighted the children with renditions of some of his hit songs and encouraged them to sing along. Rotary Club members took turns explaining the contents of stories read by the children. The next Books and Boots event is scheduled for September 2015
