There is some good news for Ghanaians as the current energy crisis might be solved earlier than government’s November deadline due to new development in the country’s energy sector.

According to engineers from the Volta River Authority,  the  Aboadze Thermal Plant which was producing 200 MW of power is now producing 350 MW as at Tuesday afternoon.

This is because the faulty compressor at the Atuabo Gas Plant has been fixed and is now supplying more gas than before.

The thermal plants in the country are also receiving more gas supply as Nigeria increases supply of gas to   the West African Gas Pipeline for onward distribution to the country’s thermal plants.

Another piece of good news coming through from the Volta River Authority reveal that the water levels at the Akosombo Dam has also picked up, and is now producing 700 MW of power. The country’s load shedding conundrum was worsened in early July 2015, as water levels dropped below the limit of 240 feet.

There’s more optimism that the power situation will further improve in November when the Karpower Ship which is expected to produce 225 MW will arrive in the country in October, and will be connected to the grid in November. Media checks reveal that the barges are ready, and preparations are prime for the power ship’s arrival into the country.

Two other power barges are expected from Dubai in November as emergency power. This will increase the supply of emergency power by December to 1800 MW.

Ghana has had to shed power for the past three years due to myriad of reasons, ranging from insufficient supply of gas supply, sharp increase in demand and the of faulty thermal plants.
