The Board Chairman of the Ghana Immigration Service, Cletus Avoka has disclosed that the Service will soon resort to the use of automation and ICT to collect revenue in order to reduce human interferences.

According to him, this will minimize the spate of corruption in the sector and help increase revenue. Mr. Avoka was speaking at a meeting with Officers and Men of the Service in Ho to round-up a three-day tour of immigration stations along the eastern corridor.

The three-day tour was to afford the Board members the opportunity to familiarize with the officers and men of the Service along the Eastern Corridor to have first-hand experience with the realities on the ground. It is also to ascertain the operation challenges in the Service in terms of available logistics and working tools.

The Director of Immigration, COP Dr. Peter Wiredu mentioned the lack of accommodation for personnel, protective gadgets and clothing and the non-availability of vehicles for patrols as some of the key challenges identified across all the stations visited.

He disclosed that a detailed report will be put together and submitted to the Ministry of Interior for advice and assistance to improve service delivery.

The Board Chairman, Cletus Avoka assured the personnel of the service that a bill has been put before Parliament which when passed in to law will among other things give them the privilege to handle guns and ammunition for their protection.
