State of Nation Address and Mahama's book not the same - Political Scientist

Some members of the public have questioned the basis of the book launch which touts achievements of President Mahama if there is already a State of the Nation Address which is responsible for that.

President Mahama

Political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mr. Mohammed Abass has asked Ghanaians not to confuse the launch of the book, "Accounting to the people", with the State of Nation Address.

President John Mahama in the book launch yesterday outlined key development projects his government has achieved so far with barely a year to go for the 2016 elections.

The presidents outlined his achievements in health, education, sports, housing, water and road infrastructure over the past three years.

Political scientist, Mr. Abass has told Accra-based Starr FM, even though the State of the Nation Address and the book on "Accounting to the people" might have the same information, their objectives are clearly different.

"My understanding of what the President did yesterday was different from the State Of Nation Address. Yes, they may have the same information, but with this one, it is different from the state of the Nation Address because with this one, he is trying to tell us concretely what he has achieved, not necessarily what he intends doing".

In the launch of the book at the State House in Accra, President Mahama said "what I’ve tried to do with this book is to bring an overview of what we’ve been doing in the whole country over the period of our governance. Accounting to the people brings together in one space and volume, major highlights of what we have achieved so far as a government.”
