Council of State election rescheduled

The decision follows the revocation of the appointment of 30 percent of members of the assembly who make up the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

The Electoral Commission has postponed the Council of State elections following the reconstitution of the electoral college.

It was scheduled to take place on February 9, 2017.

Two members of the appointed assembly makes up the composition of the electoral commission.

Mr Desmond Decker, one of the aspirants in the Greater Accra Region, told Accra-based Class FM that "I was called around 4 o’clock by the Electoral Commission PRO at the regional level [who] told me that the election was currently on hold."

She added: “I asked for timelines as to when we [could] have this election but Mr Kwame Amoah at the regional secretariat told me that he [couldn’t] give a timeline as to when the elections would come off.”
