The Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, (GAF) Major-General Bobinson Saagbul, has said his Forces are ready to partner other security services to fight crime, protect vital national installations and respond to national emergencies

They would also join their international counterparts at all times to bring peace and security to the troubled parts of the world in furtherance of the international diplomatic agenda of the government.

He was speaking at the annual get together of the West African Security Services Activity (WASSA) at Burma Camp, the headquarters of the GAF.

The Chief of Staff assured President John Dramani Mahama, who attended the ceremony as the Commander in Chief of the GAF, of their willingness to protect Ghanaians at the peril of their lives.

He pledged the administration’s commitment to prepare their officers and men for their tasks and responsibilities in a manner that encouraged hard work, discipline, dedication to duty and culture of unity.

Maj-Gen. Saagbul, however, noted that crime and insurgency had become more sophisticated world-wide, consequently, constant upgrading of equipment, training, and strategies were required to keep the forces ahead of the changing dynamics in both their domestic and international responsibilities.

He, therefore, welcomed the announcement of the President to equip them with several aircrafts and other re-tooling and logistical necessities to aid their efficiency and to motivate them to give of their best.

He commended all the ranks of the Armed Forces for their patriotism and hard work in the past year, which he termed as ‘challenging’, because of inadequate resources and budgetary constraints.

President Mahama commended the Forces for their combined exercises with the Police to curb armed robbery.

He also praised them for the arrest of heavily armed pirates at sea, and for the high standards they had set in peace keeping operations internationally.

WASSA is used to appreciate the Forces for their service to the nation.

Certificates, prizes and others awards were giving to deserving staff, who included Lieutenant Colonel Kwesi Ayimah, Major Eric Ametame and Captain Rita Nyarko.

Others are Warrant Officer II Prince Agyepong, W.O.II Issifu Fuseini and WOI Richmond Makumator Elolo.

In attendance were the Forces Commander.

Music was provided by “Silver Wings” from Ghana Air Force Base Burma Camp for the diners Aand dancers.
