“Yo, what was for breakfast,” wife's last text to Major Mahama before he was lynched

Objects such as logs of wood, cement blocks and stones were used to attack the young military officer who was returning from jogging, stopped to buy snails and was mistaken for a thief after the woman she bought the snails from raised false alarm that he was a thief.

The Police have announced that 42 people have been arrested in connection with Major Mahama’s death.

On Friday, he was laid to rest at the Military Cemetery in Accra after a memorial service at the forecourt of the statehouse.

He died as a Captain but was promoted posthumously to the rank of Major by president Nana Akufo-Addo.

In a tribute, the Vice President has described the fallen soldier as 'a soldier's soldier'.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said the slain soldier was one who was dedicated to his duty and one who deserved to be emulate.

"At the gates of the Military Academy and Training School where his career as a soldier began, there is an inscription that states that they who pass through that gate commit to defend the Nation on land, in the air and on the seas, even at the peril of their lives. If there is ever a soldier who lived this commitment as a religious duty, that was Major Maxwell Adam Mahama," he said.

"The Nation cannot mourn Major Maxwell Adam Mahama enough. Our tears cannot stop flowing as we lay to rest, such a fine example, of not only what it takes to be a soldier, but indeed what it takes to be human."
