The Weija Dam spillways will be opened today after two days of heavy rain according to officials of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

Weija Dam to spill water today after torrential rains
The Ghana Water Company Limited will today begin minimal spillage of the Weija Dam to avoid a swell-up in its water level.

Pulse.com.gh understands the minister in charge of Water Resources,Works and Housing, Dr. Kweku Agyeman Manu will meet with officials of the GWCL on Thursday to check the height of the dam and decide if there is need to open the spillways which could lead to further flooding of certain areas.
Residents of Gbawe, McCarthy Hill and Tsokome and it's environs could be forced to evacuate from their homes if the dam,which is the major water supply point in Accra decides to spill water.
Properties valued at millions of cedis has been destroyed after an 11 hour rainfall and various parts of Accra have been rendered almost inaccessible.
