Three members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have sued the party, its flag-bearer and 28 others including former president John Kufuor over the decision to suspend the party's chairman, Paul Afoko.

The plaintiffs, Tweneboah Kodua Emmanuel, Stephen Owusu and Joseph Oppong Boadi, filed a motion at the Accra High Court Friday morning in an attempt to stop the National Executive Committee [NEC] meeting that suspended Mr. Afoko.
The motion, scheduled to be heard on Friday, October 30, prayed the court to restrain the party and the 29 individuals, their agents, assigns among others from convening a meeting of the NEC to take disciplinary action against Mr. Afoko until a substantive case they have filed at the court is finally determined.

“Take notice that counsel for plaintiffs/applicants praying this honourable court for an order of interculotory against the defendant/respondent, their assigns and privy, agents, servants, workmen, allottess, grantees and successors in interest, other alienees, and relations whatsoever and howsoever described to restrain them from convening a meeting of the NEC of the NPP or any other such meeting, attending such a meeting or otherwise taking any disciplinary action against the chairman of the party until this dispute is finally determined and for such further other(s) as this honourable court may deem fit”, the injunction application stated.

However, the meeting went ahead at the party's headquarters in Accra. It is unclear whether the respondents were not served with the motion.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) National Executive Committee (NEC) at the meeting, unanimously voted to suspend its National Chairman Paul Afoko indefinitely.
Confirming the news toPulse.com.gh after the NEC meeting, National Organiser of the NPP, Mr. John Boadu said “the decision takes effect immediately”.

He also said the First Vice Chairman of the party is acting as the National Chairman for now.
The party’s decision follows a petition by Council of Elders to the Disciplinary committee of the party asking Afoko to step aside for working against the interest of the party.
Mr. Boadu further mentioned that Mr. Paul Afoko can appeal if he has concerns about the decision of the disciplinary committee.
