Ghanaians don't understand me - Hassan Ayariga

Hassan Ayariga said it is unfortunate that persons with his personality traits are considered "unserious and incompetent."

The 2012 presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mahama Ayariga has criticized Ghanaians for disrespecting him due to his personality.

He said it is unfortunate that persons with his personality traits are considered "unserious and incompetent."

“Sometimes, I think that Ghanaians get me wrong; maybe it’s because of where I was brought up – Germany. Ghanaians don’t like politicians who are down to earth. They will either disrespect you or tell you, you are not serious,” he said on Radio Universe on Saturday.

He said he was disappointed at the fun people poked at him during the 2012 electioneering period due to his love for creating laughter.

Mr. Ayariga remarked that probably, “Ghanaians want the other side of human beings where you have to be so serious.”

“A liar will always be a serious man. If someone wants to lie, he can have a serious face and lie because if he is not serious, you won’t believe him but those who tell the truth laugh and smile,” he said.

The former PNC leader opined that life is too short for Ghanaians to take politics and life “too seriously” and therefore recommended that the general public must learn to “laugh and smile.”

He further advised that Ghanaians should “learn to accept one another, let’s have a common platform that we see each as the same.”
