We've had lazy Presidents - Odike

Founder of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Akwasi Addai, also known as Odike has given assurance he will change Ghana's political status quo of non-performance and turn Ghana’s fortunes around if he becomes President.

Mr. Addai was yesterday acclaimed presidential candidate of his party for the 2016 election at a congress in Kumasi.

The 2012 presidential candidate of the United Front Party told delegates the UPP will depart from the development styles of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“I am going to challenge the status quo, what I mean is NDC and NPP brag always but we are going to do something extraordinary”.

About 1,500 delegates converged in Kumasi to elect a presidential candidate and national executives all of whom were endorsed by popular acclamation.

Mr Addai says agricultural mechanization and youth entrepreneurship development will receive great attention under his administration.

He chastised past and present administration for failing to inspire Ghanaians to economic freedom since independence.

This according to him has resulted in disorder and backwardness.

“A leader must know how to create and mobilize resources for national development but the NDC and NPP have failed us completely that is why they have resorted to loans.

“These loans come with strings attached and this does not auger well for ordinary Ghanaians, in short we have had lazy presidents”, he added.

He has also promised to change the face of business by making Ghana a big hub for investment.

Odike broke away from the United Front Party after a tough battle between him and the party’s National Chairman, Nana Agyenim Boateng also known as Gyataba over ownership of the party.

After several months of open fight between the two, Odike decided to form his own party – the UPP.
