What Ghanaians are saying ahead of Nov 7 polls

In about ten months Ghanaians will go to the polls; But electorates are a bit skeptical as to who to vote for.

In about ten months to Ghanaians will go to the poll to elect both president and parliamentarians; however, Ghanaians are a bit skeptical as to who to vote for.

There is no denying the fact that increase in utility tariffs, taxes and the availability of other basic necessities by the government would be the basis on which people will vote.

Already, some Ghanaians have began complaining about what they describe as abysmal performance by the Mahama led administration which they believe has plunged the country into unbearable economic hardship and high level of corruption.

Pulse.com.gh chanced upon a conversation by some commuters on their way to work. While others feel  disappointed about Mahama's administration, others feel he should be given another chance.

"Mahama has disappointed Ghanaians. The people around him too are lying. They tell you, oh...you will win the elections," one commuter is heard saying.

What is more, oil prices are still high in Ghana even though prices of the product continue to fall on the international market.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has subsequently explained that Ghana cannot review  downwards the prices of petroleum products, due to outstanding loans it has to pay off.

The development has however not gone down too well with Ghanaians, who feel that will be the bane of the current administration.

"Fuel is almost free in the market now. 218 dollars to 28 dollars per barrel. Meanwhile, election period...You are making a mistake," another commuter fumed.

Recently, President Mahama assured Ghanaians of a better economy with a positive impact in their pockets after he is given a second term.

The president had argued that his first four years in office has been spent improving the social infrastructure of the country which had been in dire need of a face lift for some time now.

However, one of the commuters is wondering why the president had failed to do so all this while.

"He [Mahama] is telling the people that this year, he will put money into their pockets ...So he knows that they[ NDC government] will put money into people's pockets but you didn't do it. You think governance is about money. This guy, he is a disappointed guy oo," another commuter opined.

But, in spite of the above criticisms of his administration, some Ghanaians feel he should be given another chance.

With others, President Mahama has the right to contest the 2020 elections, that is, if he is to lose the upcoming polls.

They base this on the efforts by the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo to capture the reins of power, despite two failed attempts to do so.

The question on the minds of many is: "Who will change the status quo? Who will ensure that promises are fulfilled without any excuses?"
