Ex-president Kufuor hails Akufo-Addo's "unifying" speech

The former Ghanaian leader, who appointed Akufo-Addo as Attorney General and later as Foreign Minister in his administration between 2001 to 2009, said the president's call to all Ghanaians to join him to build Ghana should be taken "seriously."

Former president Kufuor said on Joy News that "the single event of greatest impact is the address of the president." He added that it was "well crafted, [and] so unifying of our country. And I hope the entire populace of the nation will take the words of the president very seriously."

President Akufo-Addo in his inaugural address yesterday after he was sworn-in as president charged Ghanaians to be responsible citizens and work with his government for the change they voted for.

"I ask you to be citizens: citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens building your communities and our nation. Let us work until the work is done. Holy Scripture in Galatians 6:9 says "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up," he said.

"I assure you, my fellow citizens, who have entrusted me with this mandate, that I will advance my convictions with civility, I will serve the public interest with courage, I will speak for greater justice as well as compassion, and I will call for responsibility and I will live it, as well," he added.
