Joshua: Fury should focus on Klitschko

Tyson Fury's comments towards Anthony Joshua have been brushed aside by the new IBF heavyweight champion.

Anthony Joshua has no desire to trade jibes with Tyson Fury until a fight between the pair to unite the heavyweight division is arranged.

Joshua won his first world title on Saturday with a second-round stoppage of Charles Martin, the American relinquishing his IBF belt after being knocked down twice.

Prior to the bout WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Fury had goaded Joshua on Twitter, claiming he had bet £1,000 on Martin to win.

Fury then tweeted "let me slay the lamb" following Joshua's victory, but the 26-year-old has no interest in engaging with his rival.

"Why am I going to lower myself to his [Fury's] level for? He needs to represent himself like a champion, he's a kid," he said.

"He talks like a kid. I don't really say much to that because I'm not going to lower myself to his level.

"He's predictable really. He should be happy that I won and that we're bringing some limelight to the heavyweight division.

"Why hate on a man that is just trying to get somewhere in life? I don't really talk about other boxers unless I'm fighting them. I don't know why he's worrying about me; he should just focus on getting himself in shape for Klitschko.

"You see what an eight-pack and some muscles can do - knock a champion out in two rounds. So maybe he should take some tips."

Joshua's first title defence could come as soon as July, but the identity of his opponent remains unclear.

With Fury fighting Klitschko again it will not be him, and it could come too soon for David Haye after his bout with Arnold Gjergjaj on May 21, but Joshua has both men in his sights for the future.

He added: "[George] Foreman, [Muhammad] Ali, [Joe] Frazier fought.

"Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis fought

"Me, Tyson Fury and Haye. It's just the era that we're in, we have to fight.

"We can't get through this whole era without fighting, that would be silly, we will get it on at the right time and everyone gets together and sits down properly. It's just bound to happen at some stage."
