Five Ghanaian players who face make-or-break season

Here are five Ghanaian players who face a make or break season.

Plenty of Ghanaian players this season face a stern test as to whether they can cut it at their current club or if they should be shippped off.

Andre Ayew - West Ham

Having just completed a £20.5m move to West Ham, Ayew has a lot to prove with a hefty price tag hanging around his neck. The midfielder has proved himself once before at Swansea, and it’s time he repeats that because there is a lot riding on how he does.

Ayew is 26 and hence has his peak years still in the bottle. Fierce competetion for position that will make life a little complicated for him for if he fails an immediate impact, his career could be in serious trouble.

His £20.5m transfer tag means he has a huge amount to repay and that will mean he needs to score goals, and lots of them, particularly if he is given more opportunities in his preferred central role. First and foremost, he needs to steer clear of injury, and if he does that it could be a huge season for him.

Nevertheless, he has the trust of manager Slaven Bilic manager’s trust and will be given the necessary chance to prove his worth.

Jeffrey Schlupp - Leicester

It is difficult to believe the new Leicester player is on this list but Jeffrey Schlupp and his team-mates now have the biggest season ahead.

Leicester has turned down two bids from West Brom for Jeffrey Schlupp this summer, but after a season that provided moments of real inspiration and 24 Premier League appearances, Schlupp will have to even do better this term if he is to grab the attention of the big hitters.

He now faces competition from 27-year-old Andy King this term for a position at left midfielder, after losing out the left-back position to Austria captain Christian Fuchs last season.

Christian Atsu - Chelsea

Chelsea winger Atsu was once a highly rated prospect at FC Porto. He was later Vitesse's best player as they finished 6th in the Dutch league and qualified to the play-offs of the Europa League.

His loan to Everton and Bournemouth last season yielded little success, with the Ghanaian afforded only one league start and just 110 minutes of action for the Toffees.

He is still only 23 so could still fulfil his potential, but he needs to step up and show he can cut it at this level soon or that could be that for his Premier League dream.

Mubarak Wakaso - Panathinaikos

Once Espanyol's sand out midfielder in a La Liga season, Wakaso has fallen from grace of late. He struggled to make an impact at Rubin Kazan, Celtic and Las Palmas, but has now escaped to Panathinaikos and could thrive in a team where he should be one of the better players.

Wakaso is at times absoutely reckless, though, and It could very easily go wrong.

Bernard Mensah - Atletico Madrid

Mensah arguably has the biggest point to prove of any Ghanaian player this season, with Diego Simeone handing him a second chance to succeed in Spain after a catastrophic campaign at Getafe.

The Ghanaian was woefully underwhelming, playing 8 eague games and barely looking a shadow of the playmaker he was at Vitoria Guimaraes. Can he prove me wrong?
