Stephen Kearney has agreed to return to New Zealand Warriors as head coach on a three-year deal.

The Kiwi coach was on Monday confirmed as successor to Andrew McFadden, who will stay on at the NRL side as one of Kearney's assistants, with Stacey Jones earning a promotion to a new role under Kearney and another unnamed experienced international coach to follow.

Kearney will leave his position as assistant coach at Brisbane Broncos when their season comes to an end to re-join the team he played for 79 times from 1995 to 1998.

Assistant coaches Andrew Webster and Justin Morgan will leave the Warriors as they prepare to start a new era after missing out on the play-offs once again.

Graham Henry, who guided rugby union's All Blacks to World Cup glory in 2011, NFL coach Eric Mangini, Warriors legend Awen Guttenbeil and director Owen Eastwood have been appointed to a newly-formed advisory board to oversee the club's football operations.

Kearney said: "While I've got a job to do here [with Brisbane] I'm really excited about coming on board at the Vodafone Warriors," he said.

"The club means a lot to me from my time there as a player and this is a great opportunity to take the football department in a new direction.

"I've been speaking to Cappy [McFadden] about his role and I'm thrilled he's staying on. He has so much to offer with his knowledge about the club and I'm really looking forward to working with him.

"It'll also be great to have Stacey involved to a greater degree with the NRL squad so we can really maximise the expertise he provides."
