English championship side, Reading, are thought to be looking to bring Panathinaikos winger Mubarak Wakaso to the Madejksi stadium.

The local Reading Chronicle reports that Mubrak Wakaso is a target for Japp Stam as he looks to restore some excitement to the Reading squad, having crashed out of the play-offs last time around to Huddersfield Town in a penalty shoot-out in the Wembley Final.

Wakaso, 26, is a Ghanaian international who has been on loan at Granada CF and is just one cap shy of making his 50th appearance for his national side.

He has not made a major impact at the Greek side with just eight appearances there and one goal, while his time at Granada CF has amounted to 11 games and relegation with Arsenal legend Tony Adams failing to turnaround the Spanish club's performances since the Spring.

Adams has already spoken out that keeping players like Wakaso at Granada would be difficult. "Wakaso is a very expensive player, who has a high level. I'm not sure he's going to be here on Monday," Adams is quoted as saying by Modern Ghana back in May. Granada had an option to buy the player having signed him on loan in January, but the fee was too high for the Spanish side.

Meanwhile, it is still hoped that Jaap Stam will sign a new two-year deal despite being linked with other vacancies. He is in a good position to strengthen the Royals as they mount another charge on the Premiership, because the club has new Chinese owners Dai Yongge and Dai Xui Li, who bought a 75 per cent stake in Reading FC in May, according to Get Reading.
