Bangladesh have suffered a major injury blow, with paceman Mustafizur Rahman potentially facing several months out with a shoulder injury.

Twenty-year-old Mustafizur was one of the stars of this year's World Twenty20 and went on to impress in his maiden Indian Premier League campaign, taking 17 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

However, his recent stint with English county Sussex was cut short and he is now set to undergo surgery in either the United Kingdom or Australia.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media committee chairman Jalal Yunus is quoted by ESPN Cricinfo as saying: "In the last few days we have sent his reports to a number of places. We want him to be operated under the best surgeons.

"We have found two specialists in the UK and one in Australia. By Monday we can decide who will operate on Mustafizur's shoulder. He is mentally prepared for the operation.

"This sort of injury usually is treated conservatively but we are not going that way with Mustafizur because the doctors have said that it might recur in the future."

Mustafizur has taken 48 wickets in just 22 limited-overs internationals for Bangladesh, as well as playing two Tests against South Africa last year.
