Ghanaian Freight Forwarders lose income to border closure

Freight Forwarders operating at Ghana's border to Burkina Faso in Paga in the  Upper West Region are facing stiff challenges in their business operations due to the Burkina Faso coup d'etat.

News reaching Pulse Business reveals that the boarder  has been closed to all travels, halting the transport of goods to and from Burkina Faso.

Some freight forwarders say they have been left to idle about as most goods are being prevented from going through the border. They say only perishable goods are being allowed through the border, leaving other solid commodities like clothing, cars amongst others at the boarder.

The ministry of Interior has advised all Ghanaian Citizens planning to transact business in Burkina Faso in these times of political strife to be extra careful or even postpone their business plans if possible.

The freight forwards have complained bitterly about the economic repercussions of not working for a week, since they have not been able to process any documents for customers due to the closure of the borders.

The military in Burkina Faso took to the airwaves Thursday to control the country, confirming that a coup has taken place - just weeks before national elections.

In the announcement aired early on Thursday on national television and radio, the statement said that the transitional government in the West African country had been dissolved.The statement came a day after members of the elite presidential guard unit of the military arrested the transitional president and prime minister.The communique read by Lieutenant Colonel criticised the electoral code, which blocked members of the ex-president's party from taking part in the October 11 elections.
